Picture Perfect First Day Photos

With the first day of school on the horizon, your Instagram and Facebook feeds are sure to fill up with cute, creative photos of happy kids ready to start the year. Want your photos to shine? We've got some tips for taking picture perfect photos you'll treasure for years to come.

Take Practice Shots

Scout your location and take a few practice shots. Take them at the same time you will be taking those precious first-day shots. You don't want pictures of your kids squinting in the sun.

Location, Location, Location

Where will you be taking the pictures? Your new Woodridge Forest home is ideal but there are many options. A picture of your child walking down our trails, backpack in hand is both fun and poignant. Also consider a cool mural or the school bus as a backdrop. If you're planning an indoor shoot, create a cute scene.

Clothes Make the Photo

There are a lot of ways to go with clothes. You can, of course, dictate your child's first day attire but why not let them choose? It's a great way to capture your child's personality. Encourage wearing bright colors to make pictures pop. Siblings? You can dress them in matching outfits.

Details, Details

Create a sign that tells people what grade your child is entering. Some creative ideas include using chalkboards, white boards and balloons.

Props?

Props are a fun way to show your child's interests. Got a bookworm? Take a picture with this year's favorite book. Young scientists can wear pint-sized lab coats. Backpacks, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies make great scholarly props.

Show How They Grow

You know you'll be taking first-day photos for as long as you can get them to sit still. Why not use them document your child's growth? Use a growth chart as a backdrop or buy a large t-shirt and watch as they grow into it.

Friends and Family

Broaden your horizons and include neighborhood friends or even yourself in first-day photos. Your child will love seeing how his friends change and a picture of you straightening her collar is sure to bring tears to your eyes.
